Key info

What is the Big Bang Fair North East?

The Big Bang Fair North East is part of the Big Bang North East Programme, a great FREE programme of events designed to get young people aged 7-19 excited about science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) in the real world. It is part of a major UK-wide programme led by EngineeringUK to reveal the opportunities STEM can offer young people.

What can we expect?

There’s something for everyone! We have science and engineering shows and drop in, hands-on activity sessions all delivered by leading businesses, universities and others.  This year we are hoping to engage with more local employers who will talk about STEM careers as well as showing young people how STEM is relevant in the workplace.  Also as part of the event we invite schools to showcase their STEM Projects.

We are in the process of engaging as many employers as possible to support this programme of events to talk about STEM careers as well as showing young people how STEM is relevant in the workplace.

As part of this event we would like to invite schools to come along and showcase their STEM projects created at or outside of school. Every year we celebrate the work of students, culminating with an awards ceremony. A selection of projects will be nominated to represent the North East at the National Big Bang Competition which will take place in March 2018.
